Historical architecture by

Vicenza represents a unique artistic achievement: urban buildings by Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), as well as his villas, had a decisive influence on the development of architecture. The palazzi were fitted into the urban texture of the medieval city, creating scenic ensembles and continuous street facades. These urban compositions were closely related to theatre design, linking fantasy and reality in a pattern unique to Vicenza.

Alongside works by Palladio, we will also be visiting the villa known as La Rocca by Vincenzo Scamozzi (1548-1616). This work challenges even Palladio’s masterpieces,, an outstanding representation of Scamozzi’s love for theatre, light and landscape.

Guarino Guarini (1624-1683) was a baroque architect deeply influenced by the designs of Borromini. In Vicenza, participants will explore his church of S. Maria Araceli, with its diaphanous dome that shows his profound feeling for colour and light.
